Increase Your Crop’s Protein and Yield Through Soil Sampling and Actionable Insights
As the growing season approaches, there’s no better time to collaborate with your local Richardson Pioneer Agronomic Solutions team to plan your farm’s operational needs. An essential step in that process is soil sampling. This simple approach provides detailed insights into the nutrient profile of your soil, helping you improve your crop’s health, yields, and overall success.
Soil Sampling is Essential
Requesting a soil sample can give you valuable data on the following:
- Macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, and potassium
- Micronutrients
- Organic matter
- Soil pH
- Water-holding capacity
With this information, we will create customized fertilizer recommendations to meet your crops nutritional needs.
The Benefits at a Glance
Get to Know Your Soil Health
Assess your starting point and plan for success with data and key insights.
Regular soil sampling helps you track and understand the health of your soil over time. It reveals critical information like nutrient availability, soil pH, and organic matter content – all important factors in keeping your farm operation productive and sustainable.
Develop Effective Crop and Fertilizer Plans
Partner with your local Richardson Pioneer Agronomic Solutions team to build a tailored soil management and fertilizer strategy.
Once you have the soil data, the next step is creating a solid action plan. Collaborate with Richardson Pioneer’s network of skilled professionals to interpret the data and uncover valuable insights. By planning ahead, you’ll ensure your macro- and micronutrient needs for the 2025 growing season are met. We’re committed to supporting you every step of the way to help you reach your unique yield and ROI goals – from start to finish.
Improve Your Operational Efficiency
Take control of costs to secure long-term success.
Soil sampling plays an important role in improving both environmental stewardship and the efficiency of your fertilizer investment. Gone are the days of a broad-brush approach – precision fertilizer applications can be the key to success. Next, variable rate (VR) prescriptions should be generated to maximize the potential of your fields and allow for optimized fertilizer applications.
Richardson Pioneer Soil Sampling Program
Richardson Pioneer retail locations partner with third-party labs to offer customized soil analysis services that cater to your operation’s unique needs. Samples can be split into different depths to get representative analyses of nutrients depending on their behavior in the soil.
Soil Sample Depth | |
Surface | 0” – 6” |
Sub-Surface | 6” – 24” |
Nutrients that do not move readily in the soil (such as phosphorus and potassium) and organic matter are analyzed in surface samples (i.e. often the top 0” – 6”).
Subsurface samples are usually considered to be those that extend past 6-inches (i.e. 6”-12” or 6”-24”). In the sub-surface samples we evaluate nutrients that move more readily through the soil, such as nitrogen and sulfur.
By analyzing both surface and subsurface samples, we will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of nutrient distribution and soil health to better inform your operation’s soil management strategy.
Soil sampling should be done before the fall and winter months to set yourself up for success in the 2025 growing season. The data you receive through any soil sampling program allows nutrients to be incorporated into fertilizer blends proactively, giving your crops the best possible start.
